The ART and RESEARCH Programme consists of a collaboration between the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the University of Amsterdam.
Twenty selected students work on a joint project for a period of twelve months. The participants brainstorm together to conceive themes of their choice in small multidisciplinary groups, and collaborate intensively on collective research projects.
The Mourning Collective
Sterre Pomper, Jang Kapgen, Yawen Fu, Marta Pagliuca Pelacani and Fabian Reijnen
The centering of humans has produced a flawed episteme that always puts humans first, making all western knowledge anthropocentric.
We propose: magic and poison as an antidote.
Death precedes rebirth.
The imagined death of mother trees becomes thus the catalyst of a special event: the cosmic hyphae spreads its roots into all beings, making them carriers of a universal message. The planet is rebelling to humanity’s obsession with permanence. It is time we accept the tragedy, for only through acceptance, we may grieve our permanence.
The future has long materialized: we are the ruins of a past episteme. There is no other way forward than through the broken archway: for life to be reborn again. Collectively. In silence, we ask of you to listen: the murmurs, deep below, still quiver.
